The BifoldingDoor.net difference

Bifolding doors look simple from the outside — five panels, hinges, a track. The reality is more demanding. A well-installed bifold needs precise frame preparation, dead-level thresholds, weather-sealing that anticipates British rain, and an installation crew that has fitted enough of them to know exactly where things go wrong.

We've fitted these doors since 2015. Every upvc bifold doors installation is surveyed by a specialist, manufactured in a UK factory to your exact opening, and installed by our directly-employed teams — never subcontracted.

FAQ

uPVC Bifold Doors — common questions

The questions we hear most often during upvc bifold doors site surveys. Anything not covered here, get in touch and we'll answer it properly.

How much cheaper are uPVC bifold doors than aluminium?

uPVC bifolds typically cost 30–40% less than equivalent aluminium installations. A 3-panel uPVC set starts from around £2,500 fully installed, compared to £3,500+ for aluminium. The price difference reflects the lower material cost, but also means slightly chunkier frames (visible sightlines around 100mm versus 70mm for aluminium) and a lower maximum panel width. For budget-conscious refurbishments, uPVC is excellent value.

How energy efficient are uPVC bifold doors?

A-rated uPVC bifolds achieve U-values of around 1.4 W/m²K — virtually identical to aluminium equivalents, sometimes slightly better. uPVC is naturally a poor thermal conductor, so it doesn't need the thermal break that aluminium requires. For a budget-conscious extension where energy performance matters, uPVC is a strong choice.

How long do uPVC bifold doors last?

Modern uPVC bifold doors have a typical service life of 20–25 years. uPVC won't rot, warp, or need painting, but it can yellow slightly over decades of UV exposure (modern formulations include UV stabilisers that significantly slow this). Our uPVC installations come with a 10-year guarantee on the profile and sealed units, and 5 years on hardware.

Do uPVC bifold doors come in different colours?

Yes — beyond standard white, uPVC bifolds are available in a wide range of foil finishes including anthracite grey, black, cream, Chartwell green, and woodgrain effects like rosewood, golden oak and Irish oak. Dual-colour finishes (e.g. white interior, anthracite exterior) are also possible. Note that foil finishes add 2–3 weeks to lead times compared to standard white.

Are uPVC bifold doors secure?

Yes — modern uPVC bifolds use multi-point hook locks on every panel with internally beaded glazing (so the glass can't be popped out from outside). PAS 24 security certification is available, which meets the requirements of Secured by Design and Approved Document Q for new builds. They are at least as secure as a comparable casement door.

What's the maximum width for a uPVC bifold door set?

uPVC bifolds typically span up to 6m total opening width, with individual panels limited to around 1m wide due to the weight of uPVC profiles. For openings larger than 6m or where panel width matters (slim sightlines for maximum glass), aluminium is the better choice. For typical extensions and kitchen-diners, the uPVC limit is rarely the deciding factor.
